13. January 2021
After the corona-related break, the next edition of the GENERALI MUNICH MARATHON is planned for 10 October 2021.
With the VIRTUAL RUN GMM, the GENERALI MUNICH MARATHON can also be experienced digitally and is available everywhere. Registration for the real and virtual run will be possible from 13 January 2021. MUNICH MARATHON GmbH is looking ahead to the autumn with confidence and plans to restart on 10 October 2021. This positive outlook is also supported by the results of the VIRTUAL RUN GMM, which was successfully held as an alternative to the cancelled GENERALI MUNICH MARATHON 2020. From 13 October to 31 December 2020, almost 5,000 runners from 65 nations took up the new challenge of tracking their personal marathon, half marathon or 10k run on a course of their own choice. At the same time, children and families competed in the virtual mini-marathon.
“We are very satisfied with the premiere of the VIRTUAL RUN GMM. The great popularity proves the importance of endurance sports even in these turbulent times. The dynamics of digitalisation are also unstoppable in running,” says Managing Director Gernot Weigl.
The GENERALI MUNICH MARATHON goes new ways in 2021
For this year, MUNICH MARATHON GmbH is planning a hybrid event format on 10 October 2021. There are also plans to develop a dedicated app and incorporate digital challenges already during training. “With the combination of real and virtual running events, we are taking the next step into the future and expanding digital communication,” explains Gernot Weigl. “It allows us to react flexibly to current developments and future requirements. At the same time, we are providing a holistic offer for the running community,” says Weigl. From 13 January 2021, runners can register for the GENERALI MUNICH MARATHON and the VIRTUAL RUN GMM from 10 October to 31 December 2021 on the GMM website.
